BIO

P.J. Starks was born and raised in Owensboro, Kentucky. In 2007 he began taking filmmaking seriously by writing and directing the horror film Hallows Eve: Slaughter on Second Street. Due to the local success of his first professional effort, he was asked to help David Breckman (Monk and SNL) with his directorial debut film Murder In Kentucky during the 2009 International Mystery Writers Festival. Starks received a Co-Producer credit as well as helping co-edit the short. In the summer of 2010 Starks wrote and directed his passion project A Mind Beside Itself, a psychological romance. He also worked with Lee Goldberg (The Glades and Psych) on his short film Remaindered, of which he was director of photography and co-editor. Lee would go on to include P.J. as a victim in ‘Mr. Monk on the Road’, one of the entries in his New York Times Best Selling Monk based book series.

Between 2011 and 2013 P.J. worked as associate producer on the feature films Reality and Three Tears on Bloodstained Flesh for Indiana filmmakers as well as the popular KoldCast TV web-series The Book of Dallas.

In 2012 Starks created the popular event Unscripted at the Daviess County Public Library where he served as a coordinator until taking more of a consulting role in 2014. Starks and Unscripted were featured on PBS in 2014. The event is still catering to the Owensboro community as an annual event, giving local and regional indie filmmakers an outlet to screen their short works.

In 2014 P.J. co-created the Unscripted Film School where community members were given the chance to become production assistants on two short films produced in the library. He served as producer on the espionage thriller Mistrust and the short horror film Lucky that would go on to screen across the US. That same year he would create, produce, co-write and direct a segment in the feature horror anthology Volumes of Blood. He would also write and direct The Preylude, an online short that expanded the world of VOB.

In 2015, VOB would go on to garner much acclaim from critics and win multiple awards at film festivals across the country. The film found distribution through LC Films and released on April 26th, 2016. Starks also produced the 2015 critically acclaimed fan film The Confession of Fred Krueger directed by Scream Factory and HorrorHound artist Nathan Thomas Milliner. In December of 2015 Starks would partner with his good friend and fellow producer Eric Huskisson to create the production company Blood Moon Pictures, LLC.

In 2016 he conceived, produced and co-wrote the follow-up anthology Volumes of Blood: Horror Stories that would also go on to receive critical acclaim and land itself on six ‘Best Film of 2016’ lists that included Fangoria and would later be called a “Cult Hit Franchise” by Blumhouse. That same year he would serve as producer on the supernatural found footage horror film E-Demon, the mumble-core drama Lattie and the creature feature Gnawbone.

VOBHS would go on to find distribution through the LA based production company Petri Entertainment in August of 2017. That same year Starks would produce a myriad of productions including the short romantic comedy The First Date, written by his late friend and colleague Brian Storm. He would also serve as producer on the horror anthology 10/31, the telephonic terror feature Close Calls, the horror comedy Butcher the Bakers and the demon based flick Deimosimine.

In 2018 Starks would serve as a producer on the mystery slasher Angel, the slasher throwback Maniac Farmer, the short horror comedy Dracula’s Coffin as well as the documentary For the Love of the Boogeyman: 40 Years of Halloween which he was also had a featured interview in. That same year he would also participate in Scott Tepperman’s documentary Magnetic Highway - Exit 2: More of the Rise, Fall, and Resurgence of the Independent. Volumes of Blood would also find a new home at Scream Team Releasing, getting a Special KILLector’s Edition blu ray release.

From 2018 until late 2019, he and his producing partner would spend the better part of their time attempting to obtain financing for Devil’s Knight: Volumes of Blood 3, the third and final installment of the VOB franchise. Unfortunately, this project would inevitably be shelved due to lack of funding.

February 12, 2019, Starks would once again become a novel based character in ‘Killer Thriller’, the second installment of Lee Goldberg’s popular Ian Ludlow book series. In August of 2019, P.J. began pre-production on 13 Slays Till X-Mas, a Christmas themed horror anthology he originally conceptualized in 2017.

In March of 2020 Starks and his anthology films would be featured in Keith Hopkins compendium ‘The Horror Anthology Handbook’. 13 Slays would begin filming that same month, however, due to the Covid-19 pandemic production would become halted until June of that year where the film was safely produced throughout Kentucky as well as seven other states. In the Fall of 2020 Starks and his team were featured in Fangoria for being one of only a handful of genre movies safely filmed during the shutdown. In October of 2020 P.J. would serve as executive producer on Shane Devon’s directorial debut zombie short Piper Pence and the Pandemic. 13 Slays premiered to critical acclaim in November of 2020 and eventually released in March of 2021 by Scream Team Releasing.

Now he is in the early stages for the next Blood Moon Pictures horror feature and working on several local event-based projects in the Owensboro area. P.J. is currently serving as an executive producer for the Joe Bob Briggs creature feature Cryptids, the supernatural short Ghost-O-Matic and as a writer/EP for the anthology 10/31: Part 3. Starks can also be seen in the forthcoming horror documentaries In the Dark and Scared: The Documentary.

Eric Huskisson has lived in Owensboro most of his life and graduated from Owensboro High School in 1985. While in high school, he participated in all but one production of the Rose Curtain players. This is where he realized he had a passion for acting. While this dream was never fully realized at first, things changed when he met P.J. Starks through the Unscripted series at the Daviess County Public Library. The two became quick friends which landed Eric a role in WBKR’s Project Deathpack: A Deadumentary in 2013. In 2014 he worked on Volumes of Blood where he served as PJ’s assistant, Prop Master and an actor.

In 2015, Eric served as a producer and actor in Nathan Milliner’s The Confession of Fred Krueger and took the role of a doctor in 86’d films’ mumble core drama Lattie. Also in 2015, Eric co-founded Blood Moon Pictures, LLC with his producing partner P.J. Starks.

In 2016, Eric served as producer for Volumes of Blood: Horror Stories which premiered in October of that same year. During this time, he took extra work as well as was a featured extra twice on the CMT/ABC television drama Nashville.

In 2017, VOB: Horror Stories was picked up and distributed to all North American territories by the Petri Entertainment owned subsidiary Dark Cuts.

In 2018, Volumes of Blood was rereleased through Scream Team Releasing. That same year Eric, and his producing partner, began trying to secure financing for their next feature Devil’s Knight: Volumes of Blood 3, the third and final chapter of the Volumes of Blood series. In late 2019 they shelved the project due to lack of funds.

In August of 2019 Huskisson started pre-production on 13 Slays Till X-Mas. In this Christmas themed anthology, he served as a producer. 13 Slays would also become his writing and directing debut.

Production began on 13 Slays Till X-Mas in March of 2020, however, the Covid-19 Pandemic delayed several of the productions but were eventually finished safely after June of that same year. Eric would film his segment The Scareionette in September of 2020. 13 Slays premiered in November of that year and subsequently released early in 2021 by Scream Team Releasing.

Currently, Eric is in early pre-production on Blood Moon Pictures’ next feature as well as involved with other local productions. He worked as a PA on UFO Girl in July of 2021 and is now on-board the Shane Devon Halloween short Ghost-O-Matic.
